How can I explain dementia to a child?
Use simple, honest words suited to the child’s age: dementia changes how someone’s brain works. Reassure them that they did not cause it. Invite questions and explain changes gently without making promises about recovery or giving a child responsibility for care.
You could try: “Grandad’s brain works differently now. He still matters to us.”
