Dementia and checking the front door: what might help?

Checking the door may reflect worry, habit or waiting for someone. Ask what the person is looking for and offer calm company. Notice patterns and practical safety concerns rather than repeatedly correcting them or assuming the behaviour has one cause.

You could try: “Are you expecting someone? Let’s sit together while we wait.”
