Hugo Intelligence™ | The Person-Centred AI Behind The Dementia Assistant®
Hugo Intelligence™ — More Than Artificial Intelligence
People often ask me, “Who is Hugo?”
The truth is, Hugo isn’t a person.
He isn’t simply another AI chatbot, and he certainly isn’t designed to replace the knowledge, experience or compassion of the people who provide dementia care every day.
Hugo represents something much bigger.
When I first imagined The Dementia Assistant®, I wasn’t dreaming about artificial intelligence. I was dreaming about better care.
I wanted families to feel less alone.
I wanted professionals to spend less time battling paperwork and more time with the people who needed them.
I wanted organisations to have confidence that good care wasn’t left to chance.
Technology was never the destination.
It was simply the tool that could help us get there.
That’s why Hugo was built differently.
Instead of asking a generic AI to guess the answer from billions of pages across the internet, Hugo has been designed to work from structured, evidence-informed knowledge that has been carefully organised for dementia care. Every response is intended to be grounded in the principles of Person-Centred Intelligence®—seeing the individual before the diagnosis, protecting dignity, encouraging professional judgement and supporting compassionate decision-making.
That distinction matters.
Because dementia care isn’t about finding the fastest answer.
It’s about finding the most appropriate answer for this person, today, in their circumstances.
No artificial intelligence should ever replace the human being sitting beside someone living with dementia.
It should strengthen them.
It should give them confidence.
It should reduce uncertainty.
It should quietly work in the background so the person receiving care remains the centre of everything.
That has always been my vision.
People often smile when they see Hugo as a little detective owl.
That wasn’t an accident.
Owls are known for wisdom, observation and patience.
A detective doesn’t jump to conclusions; they gather information, look for patterns and carefully piece together the bigger picture.
That’s exactly how I believe dementia care should work.
Every conversation.
Every behaviour.
Every change.
Every concern.
They are all clues helping us understand the person behind the diagnosis.
Hugo’s role is to help connect those clues, while always recognising that the final decision belongs to the person providing care.
As the platform continues to evolve, Hugo will become even more capable.
But one thing will never change.
Compassion will always come before technology.
Knowledge will always support kindness.
And people will always remain at the heart of every decision.
If Hugo helps one family feel more confident…
If one care professional finishes their shift knowing they documented better…
If one organisation delivers safer, more person-centred care because the right information was available at the right time…
Then every hour spent building this platform has been worthwhile.
Because Hugo was never created to replace humanity.
He was created to help us protect it.
